Monday, August 8th 6:40pm: Cole Hamels (12-3 2.89 ERA) vs. Tyler Anderson (4-3 3.25 ERA)
Both of these lefties are having great years except one is a veteran and one is a rookie. Both of them could make this game a low scoring one, but as we saw on Sunday, even good pitchers can have really bad starts at Coors Field. The Rockies will get another chance to prove themselves against a great team and with a two game sweep at home, they would go back to a game above .500. That is easier said then done as they face the Rangers ace and the Rangers are coming off two good wins against the Division rival Astros. The Rockies will need to get back to their good pitching and will need some shutdown bullpen work as well as timely hitting.
Tuesday, August 9th 1:10pm: AJ Griffin (5-1 4.05 ERA) vs. Tyler Chatwood (10-7 3.63 ERA)
Griffin has not gone six innings or more since his first start n May although he has pitched well. He struggles with walks and has not been striking out many batters. This bodes well for the Rockies as contact at Coors can get pitchers in trouble. Griffin has also allowed at least one home run in his past 8 starts for a total of 11 home runs allowed. The Rockies could very well need every run they score as Tyler Chatwood takes the mound. Simply put, Chatwood has not been good at home and when he walks batters, he gets into a lot of trouble. The Rockies need him to be solid to earn at the very least a split at home, but hopefully this game will lead to an eventual home sweep. The Rockies will need all the momentum and confidence they can get before they head off to Texas.
